- Abstract
- The purpose of the study, against the explicated background is to gather and explore perceptions and reflections of taking Culture and Heritage Studies as a degree program at a Higher Science Institution (HEI), particularly (BUSE).The study problematizes the perceptions and viewpoints of taking Culture and Heritage Studies at Bindura University of Science Education since its inception in August 2018. Culture and Heritage Studies is construed to be dislocated considering the university niche hence it is caricatured, marginalized, peripherised, and not well accepted. The discipline was not well embraced as it was seen as a misfit at a HEI. This had far reaching implications to the enrolled students and the prospective students since generated stereotypes are long lasting. The study seeks to expose perceptions and viewpoints of the academic community and related stakeholders towards Culture and Heritage Studies (CHS), interrogate perceptions and viewpoints why stakeholders in the academia are (having an attitude) have the established attitude towards Culture and Heritage Studies(CHS) and bring forth solutions on the teething challenges that are being faced by the CHS degree programme at BUSE.
