- An Investigation on the Impact of E-Logistics on Material Availability: A Case Study of Parirenyatwa Hospital
- Abstract
- Parirenyatwa Hospital has adopted various e-logistics technologies, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, online order management, and real-time inventory tracking. The implementation of e-logistics has resulted in better material availability and reduced stock-outs at the hospital, allowing for more efficient patient care. E-logistics has enhanced supply chain visibility, enabling the hospital to track the status of orders, monitor inventory levels, and identify potential bottlenecks in the supply chain. The use of e-procurement and online ordering systems has streamlined the procurement process, reducing lead times and improving the timeliness of material deliveries. Real-time inventory tracking and automated reordering systems have helped the hospital maintain optimal inventory levels, reducing wastage and overstocking. The improvements in material availability and procurement efficiency have led to cost savings for the hospital, as it can better plan and manage its resources. The study identified challenges, such as the need for continuous user training, system integration issues, and the initial investment required for e-logistics implementation. The investigation suggests that other healthcare institutions in Zimbabwe should consider adopting e-logistics technologies to enhance material availability, improve patient care, and optimize resource utilization. In conclusion, the implementation of e-logistics at Parirenyatwa Hospital has had a positive impact on material availability, supply chain management, and overall operational efficiency, demonstrating the potential benefits of digital logistics practices in the healthcare sector.
