This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of residents in Glen View 8, Harare, regarding the consequences of poor solid waste management practices. A mixed approach was adopted, using both quantitative (N = 50) and qualitative methods (N = 15). The study employed a range of data collection techniques, including interviews, questionnaires, and observations, which were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and Thematic Content Analysis.The objectives of the study were; To examine the common solid waste management practices used by the residents in Glenview 8; To assess the KAPs of residents on the effects of poor solid waste management practices in Glenview 8and; To examine the KAPs of residents on the opportunities of adopting sustainable solid waste management practices in Glenview 8. The findings revealed a variety of waste management practices, with informal disposal and collection by private companies being the most common methods. Those who were interviewed confirmed that they deal with waste by putting in plastic bags and put outside their houses whilst some burn the waste or even bury it in their backyard. Residents generally had negative perceptions of these practices, perceiving them as ineffective, inconvenient, and dangerous. The study further identified a strong interest among residents in adopting sustainable waste management practices, but also a significant lack of knowledge and awareness about these practices. Education and awareness emerged as key factors in improving community engagement and encouraging residents to adopt more sustainable approaches. Overall, this study provides important insights into the challenges and opportunities for solid waste management in low-income communities like Glen View 8, highlighting the importance of community engagement, education and awareness, and sustainable practices in addressing these issues. The study also recommended for improve public awareness and encouraging community participation.
