- Abstract
- Many companies around the world including the public sector have been victims of fraud which has seen them losing billions of dollars annually. The primary research issue was an investigation into the impact of cloud-based computing accounting technology on organizational performance, using Zimre Holdings in Zimbabwe as a case study. The study was based on the following objectives; to examine the impact of implementing cloud-based accounting on the growth and development of Zimre Holding’s business, to determine the advantages of cloud-based accounting in relation to Zimre Holdings' organisational performance, to determine the primary factors affecting the adoption and expansion of cloud-based accounting at Zimre Holdings and to analyze the obstacles that have hindered the adoption and expansion of cloud-based accounting at Zimre Holdings. However, relevant theories and empirical evidence on the study were reviewed. A descriptive survey research design was done and self-administered questionnaires were distributed. These were 60 and only 50 were returned. The sampling methods which were used for the study included purposive and convenient sampling to draw respondents who were drawn from Zimre Holdings in Harare. Quantitative data analysis was done using Microsoft Excel and qualitative data was done using thematic analysis. The study concluded that there are benefits to cloud-based computing accounting in terms of organizational performance, but these were not completely realised because the corporation continued to rely on some traditional accounting processes. Furthermore, the study found that cloud accounting and information security, as well as blockchain technology, are linked benefits of cloud accounting, but these are costly to implement. The study also discovered that there are significant barriers to the acceptance and growth of cloud-based accounting. According to the survey, there are obstacles to the acceptance and growth of cloud-based accounting. As a result, the study recommended that cloud-based computing accounting be adopted and implemented at Zimre Holdings because it improved organizational performance. As a result, there is a need for the company to gradually migrate from traditional accounting practices to cloud-based computing, which argument the production of financial reports in accordance with international standards. The study also recommended that the flaws associated with traditional cost-based systems, such as poor data accuracy, which affects efficient and effective productivity in an organization, be adequately handled in order to boost corporate profitability. Furthermore, the study suggested that while cloud accounting, information security, and blockchain technology are linked benefits of cloud accounting, the organisation should focus more on strategic planning and the large financial investments required to make it a success. The research also recommended that internal and external fraud at Zimre Holdings be prevented through the use of technologies and tactics.
