The study provided an investigation regarding the efficacy of rural social aid programs in lowering poverty and dependency syndrome in rural areas, and in this case, it was in the context of Rushinga district, Zimbabwe. The research aimed at developing recommendations for improving the effectiveness of social services programs in trying to meet the needs of rural population. The study was guided by three main objectives mainly; identification of rural social assistance programs, an exploration regarding the underlying reasons of poverty and dependency syndrome, and an assessment of the programs influence on poverty reduction and dependency syndrome. This study encompassed the social vulnerability theory and the social exclusion theory in the literature review. Qualitative data research methods were employed, these include semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions and participant observations these tools were for gathering data insights from the community. It is essential to note that narrative data analysis was incorporated giving a focus on theme identification, trending patterns and the relationship of the narratives. The study found out that social assistance programs play a pivotal role in addressing the multifaceted challenges associated with poverty such as child marriages, school dropouts, and limited economic opportunities. These programs include CAMFED, World Vision and PSH. The research demonstrates that, these programs promote female education, equip individuals with economic skills, and enhance the resilience of households and communities. As much as the study produced the essence of these programs, it is significant to take note of the challenges and dynamics that the rural communities face, as well as the unique factors of poverty increment and dependency syndrome encountered by the social programs in the rural areas. Based on the research results, the outcomes have significant implications for policymakers, program designers, and community stakeholders, offering evidence-based insights to inform future policy decision and improve the design and implementation of rural social assistance programs
