- Abstract
- The research study assessed the Chipinge district's response plans to Cyclone Idai.In 2019, Cyclone Idai’s devastating landfall in Chipinge, Zimbabwe, underscored the critical importance of efficient disaster response plans. This study’s findings are based on data collected from 23 participants, comprising 8 Cyclone Idai survivors and 15 key informants. In order to obtain specific information relevant to the subject, the study employed a method of qualitative investigation guided by a case study research design. Data was gathered through interview guides. This dissertation identifies areas in need of development and evaluates how well the Chipinge cyclone response programs met the requirements of the affected community. Using a concurrent embedded mixed methods design, this study investigates the impacts of response programs on livelihoods, food security, shelter and healthcare by integrating quantitave survey data from 500 beneficiaries and qualitative insights from 30 in-depth interviews and 5 focus group discussions with marginalized groups, including women and children. The study sheds light on the Chipinge setting and contributes to the body of knowledge currently available on disaster response and recovery.
