- Abstract
- Solid waste management is a critical issue affecting many local authorities worldwide. Inefficient waste management practices can lead to environmental degradation, public health hazards, and economic losses which undermined the achievement of sustainable development in line with vision 2030 and National development strategy 1 and 2 .This abstract explores the various strategies and technologies that can be implemented to enhance solid waste management in St Mary’s Chitungwiza local authority. These include waste reduction at the source, improved collection and transportation methods, recycling and composting, and the use of modern waste treatment technologies such as thermal treatment and landfill gas recovery. Additionally, the importance of public awareness and participation in waste management initiatives is highlighted. By implementing these strategies and technologies, local authorities can improve their solid waste management practices, leading to a cleaner and healthier environment, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainable economic growth.
