- Child marriage is a marriage which is either formal or informal in which one or both parties are Aunder 18 years of age. Its widespread and practice is at an increase especially in developing countries and has become more common. The practice has an undesirable impact especially on the wellbeing of girls; as it affects them physically, intellectually, psychologically and emotionally. Besides having an undesirable impact on young girls, child marriages also have negative impact on their children and families as a whole in fact all the involved parties. It further has devastating effects to the sole bearers or victims of it that may hinder their personal development in all aspects of life. The effects of child marriages in urban setups have been to some extent ignored in previous research thus the purpose of the research is to also investigate the effects in urban setups like Mabvuku which is a high-density suburb as its characteristics differ from those of rural areas where much emphasis is given to thus also signaling that effects may differ to. The literature largely focused on the causes and effects of child marriage and later on offered some measures to counter act these. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of child marriage in high density suburbs. The objectives of the study were to identify and examine causes of child marriage in Mabvuku high density suburb of Harare, to analyze the effects of child marriages, to assess the role played by social media in child marriages and lastly to suggest possible strategies or interventions that can be implemented in order to reduce or eradicate the phenomenon. The study will see the use of a mixed approach of both qualitative and quantitative research methods thus the research made use of interviews, focus group discussions, questionnaires, observations and desk study as data gathering techniques that were infused within it. Data obtained from the various data collection methods was then analyzed and presented in form of tables, pie charts, histograms, pictures as well as direct quotations. All the study findings and conclusions of the study were presented respectively and lastly the study highlights some recommendations to individuals, communities, stakeholders, various sectors and governments at large.
