Title: Assessing the role of investors as a medium for poverty reduction inEpworth Suburb, Harare
Abstract: This study aims to assess the impact of investors as a medium for poverty reduction in the Epworth suburb, of Harare. Using both qualitative and quantitative research methods 60 questionnaires were administered to the following objectives: identifying the specific role of investors in poverty reduction, exploring households’ perceptions of investors’ contributions to poverty alleviation, and categorizing the types of investments that have been instrumental in reducing poverty in Epworth. Data was gathered using Focus group discussions, questionnaires, and interviews with both households and key informants. Results indicated that infrastructure development, education and skills development, healthcare services, microfinance and entrepreneurship support, and agricultural development are the roles played by investors in poverty alleviation in Epworth and the majority agreed that microfinance and entrepreneurship support play a crucial role in alleviating poverty. The study revealed that there are various types of investments, including commodity investment, real estate, and debt investment. The distribution of responses shows that Commodity investments were identified by of participants which were favored by the highest percentage of respondents. The study also highlighted that they are positive and negative perception of households towards investor’s role on poverty reduction in Epworth. The results reflected a belief that investors can create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and support local businesses through their investments. It is recommended to establish relationships with local community leaders and organizations to gain an understanding of the unique needs and challenges facing the community. This can help investors develop targeted solutions that address the root causes of poverty.
