Gender-based violence (GBV) remains a pervasive issue in Zimbabwe, with women and girls being disproportionately affected. This study investigates the effectiveness of legal frameworks and policies in preventing GBV in Zvimba District Ward 2. Using a mixed-method approach, combining questionnaires, focus group discussions, and interviews guide with key informants, this study determines existing legal frameworks and policies, evaluates their effectiveness in mitigating GBV, and examines challenges in their implementation. The findings indicate high awareness and accessibility of laws and policies, including the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the Domestic Violence Act, and the Sexual Offences Act. However, limited resources, cultural norms, and societal attitudes hinder their effectiveness. Participants expressed satisfaction with the frameworks but highlighted significant implementation and enforcement challenges. The study recommends targeted awareness campaigns, enhanced support services, legislative reforms, stronger partnerships, and monitoring mechanisms to improve the effectiveness of legal frameworks in addressing GBV. The research contributes to the development of strategies to strengthen legal frameworks and policies, enhancing their impact on GBV prevention and response.
