- Abstract
- The study was conducted focusing on the poverty alleviation strategies in urban areas of Zimbabwe, a case study of Epworth Wards 1-7. The research objectives where ,examination of poverty alleviation strategies in Epworth ,assessing poverty alleviation strategies in Epworth and determining factors for poverty alleviation in Epworth. The study adopt descriptive research design. The research instrument used was an interview guide. The study was conducted in Epworth from ward 1 to 7.The findings indicate that while some initiatives have shown modest improvements in household incomes and living conditions, significant barriers remain in addressing the systemic drivers of urban poverty. Factors such as weak collaboration between community members, local authority and the government, and lack of community participation have hindered the scalability and sustainability of interventions. The study recommends a more comprehensive, rights-based approach to urban poverty alleviation, emphasizing partnerships between local authorities, civil society, and residents. Improving data collection and monitoring systems is also crucial to inform evidence-based policymaking. Based on the findings of the study, the study also recommended that the local authority and the government must work hand in hand to come out with effective strategies for poverty alleviation. Overall, the case of Epworth highlights the need for holistic, context-specific solutions to tackle the multidimensional challenges of urban poverty in Zimbabwe.
