The aim of the study is to examine the impact of management accounting practices and their
effect on decision making, a case study of Plawn Motors. Plawn Motors has faced challenges
due to insolvency and bankruptcy. The firm is finding it difficult to make proper decisions,
this puts into question its management accounting practices. In light of that the researcher
seek to evaluate the impact of its management accounting practices and their effect on
decision making. The study made use of the objectives such as the management accounting
practices adopted at Plawn Motors, factors affecting the implementation of the management
accounting practices and the impact of management accounting practices on decision making.
Quantitative research approach was used to collect data and the descriptive survey was
adopted to analyze the data. A sample of 20 respondents was selected from the firm giving a
72% response rate. Questionnaires and reviewing documents were used as the data collection
methods. The results found that Plawn Motors adopted three management accounting
practices which include budgeting and budgetary control, standard costing and life-cycle
costing. It was also found that technological advances, organizational size, level of education
and competition were the contributing factors affecting the implementation of the
management accounting practices. The findings proved that management accounting
practices have an impact on decision making. After analyzing the findings, the study
recommends that management should adopt more techniques that will shed light in the
improvement of decision making, in addition the study recommends that management should
employ accountants who are highly educated in this changing world so as to deliver best
services to the firm for easy implementation of decision making. - Date
