- Abstract
- The study sought to examine the impacts of parental migration on the socio-economic problems faced by the children left behind. In this regard, Shamva in Mashonaland Central Province was chosen as the study setting. The social and economic challenges faced by the left behind children after parent migration were the main key points of the study as well as the solutions to the problems they face. Embedded in a qualitative research approach, the study focused on the socio-economic problems faced by left behind children and the solutions to the problems they face. Using a qualitative research design, qualitative data from participants was gathered to meet the objectives of the study. The study found that left behind children face a number of problems in school, home and in the community. Different perspectives were brought about in order to come up with solutions to the problems being faced by left behind children. On the basis of the study the researcher also put forward recommendations regarding the socio-economic problems faced by left behind children. The study put the areas needed for further study concerning the impacts of parent migration on the socio-economic problems faced by the children left behind.
