The study sought to unravel in depth an investigation of the purpose and recommendations of the Motlanthe Commission in Zimbabwe, 2018. In that regard, the objectives of the study were to probe an understanding of the causes of violence and conflict, ways to prevent future violence and promote peace and stability. Transitional Justice Theory and Peacebuilding theory was used in assessing the effectiveness of the commissions of inquiry in human rights violations, the importance of the commission in addressing matter at hand and recommendations given to avoid similar incidents in near future. The research was conducted as a qualitative case study. A total of six respondents were interviewed. This comprised of one community member in Harare CBD (Central business District), one Harare CBD Street vendor, two policy makers and two academics. The findings shows that the Motlanthe Commission of 2018 was an essential transitional justice tool used to investigate the barbaric human rights violence in the Sunshine City. The commission ventured out the underlying causes of the violence and recommendations to terminate such events from occurring.
