- Abstract
- The study explored on the impact of parental migration on children in Gutu ward 38. The major aim of the study was to examine the effects of parental migration on children in ward 38. The study employed a phenomenological research design. The research was qualitative in nature and employed interviews and a focus group discussion for the purpose of data collection. A sample size of 26 participants was drawn from the target population and was utilised to collect relevant information to the study. The study employed the systems theory. The study revealed that parental migration has negative consequences on children left behind, including sexual abuse, child labour, school dropouts, early child marriages, alcohol and substance abuse and prostitution. However, a few children benefit from their parents' migration. The study recommends that the government should implement a policy to support children left behind by migrating parents. Moreover, a proactive approach should be taken to provide these children with access to counseling services, educational resources and economic opportunities. By putting these measures into action, it is possible to help offset the detrimental impacts of parental migration and pave the way for a more promising future for children left behind by migrating parents in Gutu ward 38.
