- Abstract
- This aim of the study to research on the challenges faced by girl children living on the streets in Harare Central Business District (CBD).The study was guided by the human needs theory by Abraham Maslow. The specific objectives were to analyse how the lack of shelter affected girl child living on the streets, examine the health risks they face, and analyse the effects of exploitation on their lives. The study used qualitative research approach, using interviews and questioner to gather. Existing literature on the topic was also reviewed to provide a comprehensive analysis. The first objective reviewed that the lack of shelter had detrimental effects on the well-being and safety of girl children on the streets. They were exposed to various health risks, including malnutrition, illness, and substance abuse. Additionally, exploitation in the form of child labour and sexual exploitation was found to be prevalent among this population. References are made to address the challenges faced by girl child living on the streets. These include the establishment of shelters and safe spaces specifically designed for them, access to healthcare services, and the implementation of programs to address exploitation and provide educational opportunities.
