- Abstract
- The purpose of the study was to investigate the Institution of Traditional Leadership and Local Governance in Zimbabwe with the focus being on Kandeya chieftaincy in Mt Darwin. The study used a case study research design as a popular method in social science research that involves an in-depth examination of a single case or a group of cases. Focus groups and semi-structured interviews are two qualitative data collection methods that enable the researcher to acquire information directly from participants and ask follow-up questions for clarification. The study also explores how the role of traditional leaders has been politicized, the function of traditional leaders in the promotion of sound local governance and the effects of the politicization of traditional institutions. The study also argues that the roles of Traditional Leaders should not be politicized to promote sound local governance which facilitate proper engagement with external stakeholders such as the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works and the respective council
