- Abstract
- The study explored on the investigation into records preservation and access at the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works (Headquarters). The major aim of the study was to examine the current records preservation and access at the Ministry. The study employed an exploratory research design. The research was qualitative in nature and employed interviews and a focus group discussion for the purpose of data collection. A sample size of 20 participants was drawn from the target population and to collect relevant information to the study. The study employed the records management theory. The study revealed that in records preservation and access, they are challenges which hinder the process like untrained staff, resource limitations, technological advancements,. However besides the negative effects it has also some positive effects. After identifying the effects the researcher also identified ways on how the records can be accessed and be available for use by everyone. The findings were in line with what the records management theory posits whilst others were contrary to that. The assumptions were also cleared after the data collection. The study recommends that the government should implement policies on how other people can have access on the records and also partner with other NGOs so as to provide the resources needed for the preservation and access of records.
