- Abstract
- This study examines women's participation in the 2023 harmonized elections in Zimbabwe, aiming to shed light on the challenges and opportunities that women encountered during the electoral process. This qualitative study explores the experiences and perceptions of women who participated in the 2023 harmonized elections. In-depth interviews with 20 women voters provided rich insights into the factors that influenced their political engagement, voting decisions, and overall participation in the electoral process. The findings reveal that while progress has been made in terms of women's political representation, significant barriers persist, including financial constraints, limited access to resources, gender biases, and societal expectations. Despite these challenges, women demonstrated resilience and determination, actively engaging in political campaigns and advocating for their rights. The study underscores the importance of targeted interventions to address these barriers and promote women's equal participation in politics. Ensuring financial support, enhancing access to resources, challenging gender stereotypes, and fostering inclusive political environments are key areas that require attention. By overcoming these obstacles, Zimbabwe can pave the way for increased women's participation, empowering them to contribute to decision-making processes and fostering a more democratic and inclusive society.
