- Abstract
- The informal sector plays a vital role in urban economies, particularly in developing countries. This study explores the socio-economic effects of informal economic activities on the residents of Mufakose, Harare. It focuses on how this sector contributes to increasing household incomes, generating job opportunities, and promoting social cohesion within the community. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines qualitative interviews with quantitative surveys to provide a comprehensive understanding of the impact of informal economic activities on urban livelihoods. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, urban planners, and NGOs, aiding in the development of strategies that support sustainable economic growth and enhance community resilience. By assessing the influence of the informal sector, this research enriches the existing literature on urban development and informal economies, while also providing practical recommendations for improving socio-economic conditions in Mufakose.
