Phenomenology research design was used to explore the findings in Goromonzi District. Key informant interviews, semi- structured interviews and focus group discussions were used as data collection methods in the research. A sample size of 21 was used. The findings revealed significant decline in crop yields due to the climatic change resulting in food insecurity, economic instability, increase in reliance on external assistance and impact on nutrition and health of the people. Water scarcity and psychological and emotional distress were also part and parcel of the impact of El Nino as reported by the participants. The study highlighted the strategies which were employed by communities as coping strategies such as diversification into drought resistant crops, migration for alternative livelihoods, government and non-governmental organisations assistance and relief programs and lastly selling of assets to buy food. Recommendations proffered include implementations of early warning systems and advancement in training and financial support to farmers to adapt climate resilient agricultural practices. Therefore, there is need for advocating for policy reforms to build resilience in districts such as Goromonzi.
