- The study aimed at exploring the perceived efficacy of the Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy in addressing food insecurity in households headed by people with disabilities in 2 selected wards of Guruve Rural District. The objectives were to analyse the FDMS services provided to PWDs-headed households in addressing food insecurity in 2 selected wards of Guruve District, to examine the challenges associated with the FDMS in addressing food insecurity among PWDs-headed households in 2 selected wards of Guruve Rural District, to scrutinise the food security benefits realised by PWDs-headed households through the FDMS in 2 selected wards of Guruve Rural District, to proffer intervention strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the FDMS in addressing food insecurity in PWDs-headed households in 2 selected wards of Guruve Rural District. This study was conducted in Guruve District in Wards 5 and 6. The study was guided by the Social Exclusion theory to effectively target pwd-led households. It used a qualitative research approach case study as a research design. The research managed to reach ten household heads with disabilities and 4 key informants. Semi structured interviews were used to collect data from the primary and the secondary participants. The collected data was analysed through thematic data analysis. The findings reflected various services being offered by FDMS and these include free food aid during lean season and also school feeding scheme. Various challenges were also noted that are resource constraints, discrimination and political interferences. The findings on benefits reflected a positive impact through responses like improved health, improved attendance in school and also restoration of dignity. The study proffers various recommendations to increase the efficacy of FDMS in addressing food security in pwd-led households and these include disbursement of resources on time, community sensitization on disability dynamics.
