- Abstract
- The research is focused on the impact of the lost flood victims and presumed unreported death on families: the case of 2019 cyclone Idai tragedy. This will be according to the subsequent research objectives to establish the emotional response (e.g., trauma, fear, loss) of missing persons' families who were a victim of Cyclone Idai, to examine the impact on missing persons' families and presumed unaccounted for victims during Cyclone Idai and to examine policies and legislation in place that govern accounting for and assisting missing persons' families. An exploratory research design was applied in this study. The researcher employed qualitative research. The researcher applied purposive sampling as the sampling approach, the sample consists of a purposively chosen set of 30 respondents, the researcher applied in-depth interviews and key informant interviews. The researcher applied inductive and deductive thematic analysis. The following recommendations were provided there is need to deliver Timely and Efficient Psychological Support and Counselling Services, formulate Detailed Policies and Laws to Assist Families of Missing Individuals, foster Efficient Communication, Transparency, and Cooperation from authorities, encourage Community-Based Initiatives to Aid Families of Missing Individuals and there is also need to implement systematic review and assessment of disaster response and recovery programs.
