Abstract

This study examines the impacts of traditional leadership on land allocation in rural Zimbabwe, using Domboshava as a case study. The research investigates how traditional leaders influence land allocation decisions, and how these decisions affect the livelihoods of rural communities. The study used a qualitative approach through interviews and focus group discussions to collect data. The study reveals that traditional leaders play a significant role in land allocation in Domboshava, with their decisions often influence while some communities benefit from equitable land distribution, others experience displacement, marginalization, and conflict over land. The study contributes to the existing literature on traditional leadership and land governance in Africa, highlighting the complexities and challenges of land allocation in rural Zimbabwe. The research findings have implications for policy and practice, emphasizing the need for inclusive and participatory land governance frameworks that recognize the role of traditional leaders while promoting the rights and interests of rural communities.
