- Abstract
- This study investigates the complexities of traditional leadership in Nyamuzizi, aiming to understand the roles and responsibilities of traditional leaders within their community. The research is grounded in qualitative methodology, utilizing in-depth interviews with ten traditional leaders to gather rich, contextual insights. Through these interviews, the study explores how these leaders perceive their roles as custodians of cultural values and community cohesion. The findings reveal that traditional leaders actively engage in conflict mediation, employing culturally relevant strategies that resonate with community members. They also play a vital role in mobilizing resources for development initiatives, leveraging their authority to foster collaboration between local government, NGOs, and community stakeholders. However, the study also identifies significant challenges faced by these leaders, particularly in adapting to modern governance structures that often overshadow traditional practices. Overall, this research underscores the importance of integrating traditional leadership into contemporary development frameworks. The insights gained not only contribute to academic discourse but also offer practical implications for policymakers seeking to enhance community resilience and cohesion in Nyamuzizi. By recognizing the invaluable role of traditional leaders, we can better bridge the gap between traditional and modern governance, fostering sustainable development in the region.
