- Abstract
- This research investigates the obstacles encountered by women in engaging in politics within urban settings, with a particular emphasis on Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe. In spite of worldwide initiatives promoting gender equality and enhancing women's representation in political arenas, considerable challenges remain. The research identifies significant obstacles, including cultural norms that often discourage women's participation in politics, as well as institutional limitations that hinder their access to political resources and roles in decision-making.Furthermore, the research underscores the effects of economic inequalities, which can hinder women's capacity to campaign effectively or attain political office. Through qualitative interviews and surveys, the results indicate that women in Chitungwiza face systemic discrimination, including harassment and violence, which further complicates their political ambitions. The research culminates with recommendations for policy actions designed to enhance women's engagement in politics, emphasizing the importance of community awareness programs and supportive legal structures to promote a more inclusive political environment.
