- This study investigated the comparative effectiveness of physical visual aids and interactive tools in teaching geometrical transformations to Ordinary Level students. The study used a quasi-mixed method approach. A total of 46 students were randomly assigned to two groups: a physical visual aid group and an interactive tools group. The physical visual aids group used physical manipulative such as shape sorters, mirrors, and geoboards, while the Interactive tools group engaged with interactive digital tools. The results revealed that students in the physical visual aids group outperformed their counterparts in the Interactive tools group in terms of understanding and applying geometrical transformations. Qualitative analysis of student interviews and written reflections indicated that the physical visual aids group developed a deeper understanding of spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills, as well as a greater confidence in their ability to apply transformation rules. The findings suggest that physical visual aids are more effective than interactive tools when teaching geometrical transformations at ordinary level. The tactile nature of physical manipulative allows students to develop a deeper understanding of spatial relationships and geometric concepts, which is critical for success in mathematics education. The results have implications for mathematics education, highlighting the importance of incorporating physical visual aids in the teaching of geometrical transformations.
