- Abstract
- This study investigates the effectiveness of technology in teaching shapes in mathematics to grade five learners. The integration of technology in mathematics education has gained significant attention in recent years, but its impact on students’ understanding of shapes remains unclear. This mixed-methods study employed a quasi-experimental design, surveying 65 grade five learners and interviewing 5 teachers. The results show that technology-based instruction significantly improves students’ understanding of shapes, particularly in identifying and classifying shapes. However, the study also reveals that teachers’ technological pedagogical content knowledge plays a crucial role in effectively integrating technology into mathematics lessons. The findings have shown that there is need for trainings for teachers to be equipped in technology use and more tools are needed for a variety to help learners.
