- Abstract
- This study explores the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in mathematics education within a heritage-based curriculum. The research aims to identify the opportunities and challenges associated with using AI tools in enhancing mathematics teaching and learning. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with teachers, focus group discussions with students, and classroom observations. Quantitative data analysis included statistical assessments of student performance before and after the introduction of AI tools, revealing significant improvements in engagement and achievement. The findings reveal that AI tools offer significant opportunities for personalized learning and increased student engagement. However, challenges such as infrastructural limitations, teacher preparedness, and the need for culturally relevant content were also identified. The study highlights the importance of professional development for educators and the integration of local cultural contexts into AI tools to enhance their effectiveness. Recommendations for practice and further research are provided to guide educators and policymakers in the effective use of AI technologies in mathematics education.
