- Abstract
- This study investigates the impact of instructional materials on the teaching and learning of ‘A’ Level Biology in alignment with the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at Hermann Gmeiner Secondary Schools in Bindura. The research acknowledges that effective instructional materials play a crucial role in enhancing students' understanding and engagement in biological concepts, which are increasingly relevant in a technologically advanced society. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gather data from students and teachers. Key objectives include evaluating the availability and quality of instructional materials, analyzing their utilization in the classroom, and assessing their influence on student performance and interest in biology. The study also examines the correlation between STEM-integrated instruction and student outcomes. Preliminary findings suggest that well-designed instructional materials significantly enhance learning experiences, foster critical thinking, and encourage problem-solving skills among students. Furthermore, the research highlights gaps in resource availability and suggests strategies for improved material integration in the curriculum. The implications of this study extend to educational policy and practice, advocating for the development and provision of high-quality instructional resources to support STEM education.
