An Investigation into challenges faced by form 4 learners in solving circle geometry problems at Gozi secondary school in Mudzi district
- Abstract
-
This study investigated the challenges faced by form 4 learners in solving circle geometry problems at Gozi secondary school in Mudzi. A mixed methods approach was employed, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods. A sample of 20 learners was selected using stratified random sampling. Data was collected through a geometry test, survey questionnaires, and pre-focused observations. The study revealed that learners face significant challenges in solving circle geometry problems, including understanding circle theorems, applying formulas, and visualizing problems. The results also showed that limited resources and inadequate teacher support contribute to learner’s difficulties in solving circle geometry problems. The study recommends that teachers should provide targeted support and resources, educators receive training and development opportunities, and the curriculum be reviewed and developed to ensure a comprehensive approach to teaching circle geometry. The findings of this study have implications for mathematics education in Zimbabwe and can inform strategies to improve learner performance in circle geometry.
