Abstract

The study was aimed at examining the effectiveness of solar energy in Murewa district, identifying key benefits, challenges and potential areas for improvement.Also the persistence energy shortages and the high dependency on non renewable energy sources that impede economic growth and social development in rural areas like Murewa. To address this the main objective was to evaluate the efficiency, cost effectiveness and socio-economic impacts of solar energy installations in the district. The study was both quantitative and qualitative in nature were a population of twenty six people and purposive sampling was used. The findings indicate that
solar energy has significantly improved access to reliable and clean energy in Murewa enhancing the quality of life and fostering economic activities.Therefore, challenges such as high initial cost, maintenance issues and limited technical expertise were also identified. Based on these
findings, the study recommends the establishment of local training programs to build maintenance skills. These measures are essential for scaling up solar energy adoption and ensuring it's long term sustainability in Zimbabwe.
