- Abstract
- This study investigates the challenges experienced by teachers in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools in teaching and learning at Sanye and Mushowani Secondary Schools. Despite the growing emphasis on digital integration in education, many teachers continue to face obstacles that hinder the effective use of ICT tools in the classroom. The study was guided by objectives that focused on availability of ICT gadgets, internet connectivity, teacher ability to use the internet, and learner-related challenges. A descriptive survey design was employed, using questionnaires to collect data from selected teachers. The findings revealed that major challenges included limited access to functional ICT tools, poor or unreliable internet connectivity, insufficient training, and lack of ongoing technical support. Additionally, some learners’ misuse of devices and their lack of digital skills negatively affected teaching outcomes. The study concludes that without adequate infrastructure and professional development, ICT integration remains minimal. Recommendations include improving access to ICT resources, providing regular training, and establishing school-level support systems to enhance the use of ICT in teaching and learning.
