Abstract
This study investigated the impact of lab safety protocols on students' learning outcomes at Coeli high school in the Nyanga District, Manicaland Province. The research aimed to evaluate how adherence to safety protocols influenced student engagement, comprehension, and performance in scientific experiments. Through a qualitative approach, data were collected via questionnaire guide for students, interview guide for teachers, observation checklist and document analysis. The findings indicated that effective implementation of lab safety protocols significantly enhanced students' confidence and participation in laboratory activities. Furthermore, the study revealed a positive correlation between safety training and improved academic performance, suggesting that prioritizing safety in the laboratory environment fosters a more conducive learning atmosphere. This research underscored the importance of integrating robust safety protocols in educational settings to optimize student learning outcomes in science education. However, the study also identified significant challenges, including resource limitations and variability in training quality, which hinder full adherence to safety protocols. Overall, the research recommended the necessity of robust safety measures to create a secure and effective learning environment, recommending enhanced resource allocation and comprehensive training programs to foster a culture of safety in educational laboratories. This study conclusively demonstrated that the implementation of lab safety protocols significantly impacts students' learning outcomes in the selected high school in Nyanga District, Manicaland Province.
