- Abstract
- The researcher conducted a study to assess the outputs and outcomes of learning as reflected by Biology students in Karoi rural secondary schools in Hurungwe District, Mashonaland West Province. The study sought to establish the strategies that can be adopted to improve the learning of Biology at schools under investigation. This study was conducted in three secondary schools in Hurungwe district. The study used mixed research methodology. The study sampled 6 teachers teaching Biology. And 30 learners are also doing Biology. Specifically, it used survey research and observation to gather data. Questionnaires were given to biology learners, teachers, and HOD. The observations were done in biology lessons to have first-hand information on how lessons were conducted. Data was analyzed using themes that originated from the gathered data. The study established that most learners are being inspired to learn biology for inquiry-based learning and innovations, although there are not enough materials and equipment for inquiry based learning to be conducted during lessons, a congested timetable, lack of study time and the proximity of learners from the school. The study recommends that school science laboratories should be sufficiently equipped with laboratory equipment to help accommodate all learners and have all learners in pragmatism. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education should articulate a clear policy on inclusion and provide adequate financial support to all schools to support learners and teachers
