- Abstract
- This study examines the impact of social protection policies on food security in rural areas of Mt Darwin district. Using a cross-sectional design and survey data from 50 households, the study finds that social protection policies have a significant positive impact on food security, particularly among vulnerable households. The results show that social protection policies improve dietary diversity and nutritional status among rural households. The study also identifies several socio-economic and institutional factors that hinder the successful implementation of social protection policies. The findings highlight the importance of prioritizing social protection policies as a key strategy for improving food security and reducing poverty among rural households. The study recommends that policymakers address poverty and unemployment, improve access to education and healthcare, and promote agricultural development to enhance food security. The study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the effectiveness of social protection policies in improving food security in rural areas.
