Using a situative approach, this study investigated the addition of grade three factions in Hurungwe East District. The situative educational philosophy served as the theoretical foundation for the investigation. Nine teachers and three school heads made up the sample of twelve participants in this qualitative study. Data were gathered through observation, document analysis, and interviews. Teachers' knowledge of situative methods for teaching grade-level fraction addition was mediocre. This is due to the fact that it was shown that the majority of teachers only knew about three different types of situative approaches when it came to teaching third-grade students how to add fractions. These included using problem-based learning, scaffolding, and collaborative learning. Techniques to reduce the difficulties teachers encounter when instructing third-grade addition were identified
Strategies to minimize challenges faced by teachers when teaching addition of grade three fractions using situative approaches were individualized learning, providing ongoing professional development for teachers and careful planning with improvisation. The effectiveness use of situative approaches in teaching grade three fractions were noted as enhanced problem solving by learners, active engagement and collaboration, enhanced conceptual understanding and elevated memory retention. Among the recommendations of the study are that the Ministry must provide regular in-service teacher training so that teachers remain in touch with modern situative approaches in teaching addition of fractions at grade 3 level. School administrators in conjunction with School Development Committees (SDCs) must strive towards the provision of all modern and traditional resources to facilitate the effective utilization of situative approaches in teaching addition of fractions at grade three level.
