- Abstract
- The study investigates the importances of mathematical instruments in the teaching and learning ‘construction’ in Mathematics in rural areas. The study employed a qualitative research approach which utilized a case study research design. The sample of the study included four administrators, two Mathematics teachers and thirty-eight students. Questionnaires and interviews research instruments were used to collect the required information. The collected data were analysed by employing descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that the use of mathematical instruments is very important in the learning and teaching of ‘construction’ especially in rural areas where there are low income schools. Also, basing on the findings the students and staff were aware of problems which affects the learning of mathematics in general and construction in particular. From this research it is evident that providing mathematical instruments as a school is very helpful in educating the low income society, offering incentives to teachers and increasing the number of mathematics teachers can go a long way in improving the learning and teaching of construction in Mathematics in rural areas.
