- Abstract
- This study examines the key challenges associated with the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry in Zimbabwe. Employing a mixed-methods research design, the study assesses the extent of AI adoption and identifies the critical factors hindering its implementation, including financial constraints, cultural barriers, infrastructure limitations, and regulatory challenges. The quantitative component utilized an OLS regression model, which revealed a strong and statistically significant relationship between the independent variables and AI adoption, with the model explaining over 92% of the variation. The reliability and validity of the research instrument were also validated. The qualitative findings further elucidated the significant negative impact of these factors on the industry's ability to integrate AI-powered solutions. The study's conclusions underscore the urgent need for targeted policy interventions, strategic investments, and collaborative efforts to address the multifaceted challenges and catalyze the widespread adoption of transformative AI technologies in the Zimbabwean pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, thereby enhancing its global competitiveness and delivering innovative, high-quality products to healthcare systems and patients nationwide.
