- Abstract
- This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Dangerous Drug Act in curbing drug abuse in Zengeza. Qualitative research approach was used in the study. Interpretivism research design was used to explore the findings in Zengeza. Questionnaires and document analysis were used as data collection methods. A sample size of 20 was used thus 4 police officers, 4 health professionals, 4 community members and the reaming 8 were the victims of drug abuse. The findings highlight systematic challenges such as lack of resources, corruption, inadequate training and low public cooperation and awareness which undermined enforcement and policy outcomes. To address the gaps, dual strategies were used such as strengthening enforcement through resource allocation, anti-corruption measures and specialized training for law enforcement. Prioritizing public health initiatives such as decriminalizing personal drug use, expanding harm reduction services, integrating drug education into school curricula and launching anti-stigma campaigns to foster community reintegration. Therefore, these strategies aim to transform the Act into a balanced framework that addresses root causes of drug abuse, aligns enforcement with rehabilitation and promotes community safety and well-being in Zengeza. Recommendations proffered include, allocation of more resources to enhance capacity to enforce Dangerous Drug Act by the Republic of police and enhancement of awareness campaigns so as to educate the community about the provision of the Dangerous Drug Act and the dangers of drug abuse by the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.
