- This research investigates the impact of Agricultural Development Programs on poverty reduction in Ward 19 of Matepatepa rural area, Bindura District, Zimbabwe. The investigation employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative data collection tools to assess the effectiveness of various agricultural initiatives, including access to credit, agricultural inputs, extension services, and infrastructure. Findings indicate that while a proportion of households have access to agricultural inputs and extension services, there are gaps in credit and infrastructure, which negatively affect their productivity and market access. Regression analysis indicates a weak correlation between ADPs and poverty reduction, suggesting that external factors may play an important role in influencing household welfare. Household income is identified as an important determinant of households’ participation in ADPs, indicating that strategies are needed to enhance food security and reduce poverty in most rural areas of Zimbabwe. Recommendations include improving access to credit, investing in infrastructure, expanding training programs, and fostering community engagement to ensure equitable participation. This study contributes valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within agricultural development in Matautia, aiming to inform policymakers and stakeholders on effective strategies for poverty alleviation in rural Zimbabwe. I do recommend that, whenever other charity programs going to be given to rural communities, there should be a fore evaluation for it to be sustainable.
