Abstract

The study investigates the impacts of natural disasters on human security. Case study of Chimanimani district. The main purpose of the study was to explore the impacts of natural disasters on human security. The study is crucial as it addresses the critical issues of resource management, which natural disasters can lead to destruction of infrastructure, loss of live, displacement of people. A mixed methodology approach was employed, combining qualitative interviews and quantitative questionnaires to gather comprehensive data. The findings reveal several impacts of natural disasters which are loss of infrastructure, economic loss, displacement and migration, psychological trauma, injuries and fatalities and mental health impacts, increased vulnerability. On the response mechanisms the government early warnings were inadequate, leading to delayed evacuation and response. The research concludes that natural disasters have devastating impacts on human security, highlighting the need for effective disaster risk reduction and management strategies. The study’s findings have implications for policy, practice, and future research on disaster risk reduction and human security.
