The study explored the efficacy of teaching combined science at form three level within the competence-based curriculum (CBC) in Zvishavane urban. The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of the CBC approach in fostering scientific understanding and practical skills among students. The study employed a mixed –methods approach utilizing qualitative data collection techniques. Qualitative data was gathered through semi- structured interviews with teachers and students to gain insights into their perceptions of the competence based curriculum approach had a positive impact on students learning outcomes with significant improvement observed in their knowledge and practical skills. Teachers reported that the CBC approach promoted active learning, critical thinking and problem –solving abilities among students. However, challenges such as a lack of adequate resources and teacher training were identified as potential barriers to the effective implementation of the CBC. These challenges were identified in the implementation of CBC. These included a lack of adequate resources such as laboratory equipment, chemicals as well as shortage of qualified teachers. Additionally, the large class sizes and limited instructional time hindered effective implementation of the curriculum. The study concludes that the CBC approach holds promise for enhancing science education science education in Zimbabwe but further efforts are needed to address the identified challenges and ensure its successful implementation.
