- Abstract
- The study assess the use of ICT as a strategy for improving learner interest in mathematics at the ordinary level. The indications was that teachers and learners appreciated the use of ICT tools in mathematics. It surfaced that there were inadequate ICT tools, a lack of time and funding while there is a challenge in accessing the internet. The research found out that there is inadequate resources like computers, printers and relevant educational software at the school. Furthermore, some learners do not have access to computers because they think computers are difficult to operate and are afraid of using a computer due to background set up of some of the learners. Most learners indicated that they face challenges in using computers as they need assistance when using them. Also, some do not even own a smartphone making it difficult for them to even attend online lessons. In addition, some teachers do have their personal laptops and they use them for personal purposes. Interview respondents mentioned a number of benefits. They indicated that ICT gadgets, for example computers store information unlike the textbooks. This indicates that learners gain limited information from textbooks as they frequently use books. Learners also when they use computers, they are exposed to research through google and other research engines.
