Abstract

The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of improved resilience-building programs on vulnerable households in Mangwe District, Zimbabwe. The purpose of this study is to assess how successful resilience-building initiatives enhance the resilience and general well-being of households dealing with social, economic, and environmental issues. This study used a mixed-methods approach that integrated qualitative interviews with quantitative survey data. In order to complete the quantitative component, information from a representative sample of 100 district vulnerable households was collected, and their socioeconomic profiles, livelihood plans, and resilience levels were evaluated. To acquire a deeper understanding of the initiatives and their results, the qualitative component involved conducting in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, such as community members, local government officials, and project implementers. The study examined various resilience-building interventions implemented in the Mangwe District, such as agricultural training programs, access to improved water and sanitation facilities, livelihood diversification initiatives, and community-based disaster risk reduction measures. The study assessed the impact of these interventions on key indicators such as income generation, food security, access to basic services, social cohesion, and vulnerability reduction. The results of this study improved our understanding of programs aimed at enhancing resilience and how they worked to improve the lives of vulnerable households. With an eye on sustainability and scalability, this research offered evidence-based suggestions that could improve the planning and execution of future initiatives. Policymakers, development professionals, and local communities may properly allocate resources and make informed decisions to assist vulnerable households in strengthening their resilience and coping with recurring problems by having a thorough understanding of the effects of enhanced resilience building programs. This study also intended to add to the larger conversation about resilience-building tactics and sustainable development in the context of vulnerable communities.
