- Abstract
- This study was to investigate the impact of audio-visual materials on teaching and learning experiences in secondary schools in the Chiredzi District. The primary objectives included assessing the effectiveness of audio-visual aids, examining their influence on student engagement, motivation, and academic performance, and identifying effective practices for their integration. The mixed-methods research utilized surveys and interviews with teachers, Heads of Departments, and students. Statistical analysis indicated that 60% of respondents at Buffalo Rage and 55% at Chiredzi Christian believed audio-visual materials considerably enhanced teaching and learning. The impact on student engagement and motivation was also notable, with 55% and 50% of respondents reporting slightly and moderately positive impacts, respectively. The integration of audio-visual materials led to slight improvements in academic performance, observed by 55% and 71% of respondents. Qualitative insights highlighted challenges such as limited resources, insufficient teacher training, and technical issues. Effective practices included comprehensive teacher training, reliable equipment, interactive elements, curriculum alignment, and collaborative planning. These practices emphasized the importance of technical and pedagogical support for successful integration. The study concluded that audio-visual materials substantially enhanced teaching and learning, with positive impacts on engagement, motivation, and academic performance. However, addressing challenges related to resources and teacher proficiency was crucial. Recommendations included prioritizing teacher training, investing in reliable equipment, and fostering a collaborative environment among educators to leverage the full potential of audio-visual technologies.
