Abstract

This study explored the effective use of (ICTs) in Primary Mathematics education at Mutanda Primary School. The qualitative approach adopted for data generation, analysis, and discussion provided valuable insights into the use of ICTs in Primary Mathematics learning activities. To collect the data, the researcher used focus group discussions and personal interviews from a total of 25 learners and 6 teachers who were purposively sampled. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the data, revealing that ICTs such as smartphones and computers were being utilized in Primary Mathematics learning activities. However, various challenges were encountered in using ICTs, including infrastructure and technical issues. These challenges hindered the effective use of ICTs, limiting their potential to enhance Primary Mathematics education. Participants proposed strategies to mitigate these challenges, emphasizing the need for improved ICT infrastructure and technical support. The study concludes that the use of ICTs in Primary Mathematics education is limited due to the challenges encountered. To address these challenges, recommendations include the involvement of all stakeholders in mobilizing ICT infrastructure and providing teachers with training on effective ICT integration. By prioritizing ICT infrastructure development and teacher training, the school administration can enhance Primary Mathematics teaching-learning activities and improve student outcomes. Furthermore, the effective use of ICTs in Primary Mathematics education requires a collaborative effort from all stakeholders. Parents, teachers, and learners must work together to ensure that ICTs are used to support learning and improve academic achievement.
