The study sought to critically examine the intersectionality of human rights violations in Gokwe North's Gokwe North region, analyzing how patriarchal structures intersect with human rights discourse to perpetuate violations against women and girls. The main research objectives were to analyze the intersection between human rights violations and patriarchal structures affecting women and girls in Gokwe North, investigate how traditional norms and beliefs impact the realization of human rights for women and girls in rural Zimbabwe and examine the role of state and non-state actors in addressing or perpetuating these human rights violations. A qualitative methodology was employed in this study. A sample of 30 participants was used for the purpose of this study. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and documentary review. The research findings highlight the pervasive nature of human rights violations
in Gokwe North, particularly against women and girls. The study revealed that traditional norms and beliefs perpetuate harmful practices such as early and forced marriages, virginity testing, and female genital mutilation. The research findings also underscore the importance of addressing the root causes of human rights violations in Gokwe North, including poverty, inequality, and social injustice. The study highlights the need for a comprehensive approach that involves all stakeholders, including government officials, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and the international community. The study's findings have significant implications for policy and practice. They highlight the need for policies and programs that promote human rights and challenge harmful traditional practices. - Date
