- Abstract
- This study sought to explore factors influencing the integration of educational technologies in Ordinary Level Competence-Based Mathematics learning activities. Data generation, analysis, and discussion were grounded in an interpretivist paradigm and qualitative approach. The researcher used focus group discussion and interviews in generating data. In this study, thirty-six learners were conveniently selected and five teachers were purposively selected to form the sample for this study. The generated data were analysed according to themes derived from the formulated research questions. Findings of the study revealed educational technologies used in Ordinary Level Competence-Based Mathematics learning activities are smartphones, calculators, and laptops. These educational technologies are used to play games and puzzles, watch videos, searching information, among others. However, the integration of educational technologies at Ordinary Level Competence-Based learning activities encountered the following challenges: political interference, inadequate technologies, and poor network coverage. From the generated, analyzed data and interpreted data, the researcher concluded that the integration of educational technologies in Competence-Based Mathematics learning activities is significantly low due to poor network coverage, and inadequate technologies due to limited availability of funds. The researcher recommends that teachers should use a variety of educational technologies to cater to the learners' different learning styles and there is a need for staff development to teachers on the contemporary strategies that can be used in the integration of educational technologies in Competence-Based learning activities. Furthermore, various stakeholders are encouraged to sponsor these technologies in schools to supplement the existing technologies.
