- Abstract
- The study sought to investigate the relationship between climate change education and environmental behaviors in Glendale Cluster, Mazowe District. The objectives of the study were to investigate if climate change education is effective to encourage pro-environmental behaviors. The research was both quantitative and qualitative in nature where the study used questionnaire and interview schedule to gather information. The researchers extracted a sample of 50 O-Level Geography students from a study population of all O-Level learners from two secondary schools in Glendale Cluster. Data was presented and analysed using thematic analysis, descriptive statistics and correlation coefficients. The major findings were that students in Glendale Cluster displayed high level of knowledge of climate change, that the students displayed average to below average environmental behaviors, and that the students with high knowledge of climate change practice environmental behaviors more than students with low knowledge of climate change. The study shows that there is a weak positive correlation between students’ knowledge of climate change and environmental practices. The researcher recommends that, schools should conduct practical work at school and in the community to encourage pro-environmental behaviors. Furthermore, the study recommends government support to increase staff establishments and reduce pupils-teacher ratios and the workload of Geography teachers in order to ensure effective teaching and learning in schools.
